Math Problem Solving (ongoing throughout the year):
We have two things that we focus on when solving a problem, understanding/solving the problem and communicating our thinking and strategies. After examining some of the work they produced, students came up with a list of goals/characteristics that their should show when they solve problems.

Les objectifs quand tu résous des problèmes:
Résoudre le problème
Communiquer vos idées

Goals when solving problems:
Problem solving: Show that you understood the problem, identify important information from the problem and the question to answer Show your work, even when something didn't give you the correct answer, it's still part of your process explain the strategy that you used, it should be a strategy that could lead to the right answer calculations are shown and correct clearly indicate the answer to the question and context (don't just say the answer is 5, answer the question with a complete sentence. There would be 5 students in each car, for example) Communication: Explain how you got your answer (explain your work) explain the connection between the work that you did and the question (how do you know your answer makes sense) work is organized and in a logical order use words, symbols, numbers, pictures, math symbols (+ x ÷ =) and math language
